Concentration and speciation of arsenic in an insect feeding on the leaves of Pteris vittata

The development of an effective and green bioinsecticide is a research hotspot. This study demonstrated the possibility using arsenic (As) hyperaccumulator as bioinsecticide. When As concentration in Pteris vittata fronds exceeded 138 mg kg?1, larva hawk moth (Theretra clotho) displayed apparent preference to lower-As-concentration P. fronds. body was high 850 kg?1. Such might have been case that T. clotho lacks process exclude As. larval frass showed only 1%–4% body. predominant species As(III)-SH. percentage As(III)-SH slightly higher than Chelation with thiols may be universal detoxification mechanism for both plants insects. In general, adoption should feasible. However, exact processes achieve this goal still need further study. different animals detoxify another interesting topic.
